Cupertino

Cupertino is a suburban city in Santa Clara County, California, directly west of San Jose on the western edge of the Santa Clara Valley with portions extending into the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains. The population was 58,302 at the time of the 2010 census. Forbes ranked it as one of the most educated small towns. It is best known as home to the worldwide headquarters of Apple Inc.

Cupertino City Hall

Californians govern themselves by two sources of power. One way is to adopt a charter or constitution, which sets forth the basis and authority for all future actions not in contradiction with State law. The other way is to follow the provisions and requirements established by the State as General Law for cities. Cupertino falls within this latter category and is classified as a General Law City, as are about 80% of the cities in California.

De Anza College, Cupertino

De Anza College is a 112-acre (45 ha) community college located in Cupertino, California. It was founded in 1967 on the site of the Beaulieu Winery and is named after the Spanish explorer Juan Bautista de Anza. Along with the arrival and growth of Apple Computer, the presence of De Anza College contributed significantly to the growth of Cupertino from a small town to an industrial city and an integral part of Silicon Valley. It consistently ranks #1 or #2 in the state for the total number of students who annually transfer to University of California and California State University campuses. The college is also the home of the California History Center, housed in a mansion called "Le Petit Trianon".

Saint Joseph of Cupertino Parish is a territorial parish serving Latin Rite Catholics in Cupertino, California. The parish is named for Joseph of Cupertino, and had its origin in a small wooden chapel at the Villa Maria retreat located in Stevens Creek Canyon (Stevens Creek was known in Spanish as Arroyo San José de Cupertino). Villa Maria was the country home of the Jesuit fathers of Santa Clara University, who purchased the 320 acre (1.3 km²) tract in 1873.
